Have You Ever Wondered… WHY WE CRAVE HORROR MOVIES

Mrs. B. here, talkin to ya.

Guess what I did yesterday? No Amber, I did not pick my new BFF yet… Goodness, she has been getting annoying about that lately….

But i DID read an essay. Stephen King wrote it, and he did a pretty good job of writing it. I’m sure if Mr. B. would have written it, it would have been better; but oh well.

This essay was called Why We Crave Horror Movies, and that’s exactly what it talked about.

The human mind is a diverse thing. A little fact about it is that humans crave to be frightened. Our day-to-day life gets mucho boringo. So we like to get the snot scared out of us time and time again. Another thing Stephen King notes, is that there is a possibility that in reality, we are all mentally ill. We have sick phobias - we talk to ourselves, (I actually talk back in different, higher pitched voices) we are all constantly craving something. The human mind is terribly flawed, and beautiful. Mr. King picked up on that, and he understands the notion of it. He creates horror flicks, knowing we can relate to something absurd and crazy, because deep down, we all feel like we’re  the crazy ones. It’s kinda nice to see someone else get tormented in holywood – as we all lie in our beds, crying ourselves to sleep for reasons we cannot explain.

In the movies, people have real mosters chasing them. In our lives, we chase ourselves out of reality with irrational fears and send ourselves into lonely depression through our compulsive obsessions.

BLACK MEN AND PUBLIC SPACE…an essay by Brent Staples

Yo, what up crew? It’s your home G, Mrs. B.

Anyways crew, I read an essay lately; and it kinda-sorta changed my life.

The essay, as the title to this blog suggests, is Black Men and Public Space. It tells of a tall black man in the 1960s who is discriminated against because of the way he looks. Harsh.  However, he keeps on living in the city, trying his hardest to appear as a harmless man. Not only did women pick up speed when they noticed him pasing close behind them; but also, he was actually accused of robbing a jewlery store. For what? Being in the wrong place at the right time?

I personally found it hard to believe that people could see such a difference from one person to the next, noting only on the color of one’s skin. I have about three different skin colors myself – red, white, and blue. If you didn’t catch that last part friends, I mean that I’m an all American chica. To el core.

Seriously though kids, discrimination is the ugliest of skin types to wear. I would far rather be black, white, hispanic, asian, or color blinde before being any kind of racist. (except for racism against Canada, which obviously doesn’t count)

How would it feel? To be walking behind a woman, and have her constantly checking behind her back to make sure you didn’t have a weapon? Harsh, I would assume.

Well, friends of Mrs. B., if you haven’t noticed the color theme thus far, chew it up right now. Color is not the key. The heart that pumps is what is important, and those who discriminate, have no heart at all. I live in America, land of the free, where everyone is excepted (becase if you don’t, it’s called discrimination, and discrimination is punishable by law) so, the moral of my story, is make sure that you live somewhere that people can’t legally discriminate agaisnt you. Like America!

EL ENDO!

How People Could Compete to Become MY BFF

Hey guys, It’s me again, Mrs. B.

Just wanted to talk to you kids about something real special…. ME.

I’m kinda a big deal, so accordingly; I have many, many friends. Therefore, if one would want to be #Uno on my list of friends, they would have to go through a vigorous test to detect all flaws that could potentially hurt my celeb-rep. I have people, you know? Big people. People who rank. Just like you will. Real soon. Reeeeaaalll soooon.

Hi. Ok, #1:

- You better be pretty smart. I’m kinda not so up ther on the GPA scale, I couldn’t spell half the words I just wrote in this sentence without asking Amber how to spell them. Thanks Amber….

- You have to tell me I’m cool. Often. All day long, the only thing i want to hear my BFF say is “hey, Mrs. B, you look totally radical in that toob top today”, so i can reply “why do you always call me that Amber?!”

-  Last but not least, you have to hate Canada as much as me. I hate Canada. I dislike Canada a….lot. So if you go on and on about how sweet the washrooms are in that almost-country, your outie.

     PEACE.

Iowa, home of the brave and hearty. Not only is it the perfect place to settle down and start a farm, but there are many more reasons for why one should stop on by. Ya hear?

I myself live in IA, home of the brave. I have grown to know and love the seeds that built this homeland as my own, and you will too.

Reason #1: I live in Iowa.

Reason #2: Amber lives in Iowa. LOL, and Iowa is where the Pizza Ranch started. Have you ever had Pizza Ranch Pizza? No? Then you better stop on by to Iowa where the very first Pizza Ranch was born!!!

Reason #3: Amber plans to leave Iowa in a year to go to school in Sioux Falls.

Birthday (better than amber’s post)

Tomorrow is Amber’s birthday. I’m really excited that she is finally turning the big ONE-EIGHT. She is finally becoming an adult. Psh, amature. See, i turned 18 in July already so… I suppose that would mean I’m beating her…. Weird.

Seriously though, she had a big ‘ol breakfast bash this A.M., everyone who was anyone was invited. Can i get a “holla back”?! That’s right. Actually there was like two people besides me and Amber that came, 1 of them paid to be there. Right Levi? Beverages were provided. The BB (breakfast bash) was a hit unexpectedly. Flame throwers, ice statues, and clowns set the theme for the party, that theme being Sponge Bob.

Got that? Snack on that food-for-thought.

Anyways, Amber’s birthday tomorrow. She doesn’t know it yet, but i switched her calander on both facebook and her personal calander around so she thinks it’s really her B-day tomorrow. Her birthday is actually in 2 months. Ya, say i’m cruel. Do as you wish. But when you read her post about how excited she is to see her special day tomorrow… When it’s really just another crappy day… You’re going to snicker a little too. That snicker is from me. A little present from me to you. K? Chew on that.

See that weasel? That’s Amber. Amber in animal form. Whenever Amber would ask me as a child “Hey, Mrs. Blankenspoor, if i was an animal, what animal would i be?” and i would always reply “Why do you always call me that?” but that’s besides the point. Because deep down, i always thought of her to be a weasel. So that weasel seen above?… AMBER! Ya. Take a bite of that.

On a more sappy and pathetic note, I am actually very excited that it is Amber’s big day tomorrow. Even though I’m like 30 years older than her, it’s still exciting. Especially ‘cuz she’ll finally be able to get into The Indian Spirit Casino with me that she could never get into with me.

Besides that, I’m just excited that it’s her special day because she deserves a specail day!! Right? So whoever thinks Amber’s a big nasty weasel on her big ONE EIGHT tomorrow, I’ll spit on you. Drink that up.

I wish you a PERFECT DAY TOMORROW and i hope you get everything you ever wished for. Like that pony i told you I’de give you if i felt you deserved a pony for your b-day last year.

-Peace

My All-Time Favorite Video:

Click on this: Lost In The City

This here video changed my life. That was an example of me lying. Because it did not change my life, it made me laugh very hard once or twice. This video is not necessarily special by any means… But it’s cute. So watch it. NOW.

I like this video because it captures the feeling I myself absorb every time i look at a map. And that feeling… Is failure. Maps make me hate my life. When i look at them i can feel the wrinkled paper laughing at me, the fold lines glare. Maps and I have never been great friends. Just as can be said concerning Michale Jackson and Shaniqua, my old best friend and her arch enemy. Maps hurt me in a way that no other papery, or computer uploaded thing can. They draw tears from my young eyes. “Why?!”, you must be asking, “Why is it, that my favorite blogger, Jodi Jackson, has such a difficult past with these… These… MAPS?? What have they done to her??” And alas, I am here to answer your simple minded questions. I, Jodi Kutcher, have never been able to properly read a map. *gasp!* I know… I know, its hard to believe. I in fact have had such difficulties with maps, that i have gotten myself, and many others lost. Lost in the big empty spaces we call the map-desiring world. So lost, in fact, that just a few nights ago, I found myself in Minnesota, when I had planned on finding my way to South Dakota. Ah… It’s hard to hear. I, Jodi Pitt, have my flaws too. Although your ears could use a clot for the blood… The truth about my few insecurities, will set you free. Can you handle the truth?

Anyways, after my incident with the lost world of South Dakota, I had to make it up to myself. I had to find something BIG. And, as I’m sure you all know and are just waiting to hear, I did. I found this clip on Youtube! Not only is it cleverly cute and sensitive, but it is also funny, and tragic. I would advise you all to take a look at it. Hopefully…  Like mine, your heart will be soothed by this short clip. The soothing of misserable pain that is loss. Loss of the idea…. That Jodi Blankenspoor, has flaws. Just like everyone else.

On a more serious note, however, this video relates to my hate of maps. They can be confusing. Just click on the link… And find out why!

Top 3 Pet Peeves That Will Drive Me CRAZY:

1. When strangers stare at me. If i notice that someone i don’t know is looking at me for a long period of time, and won’t look away when they notice I see them staring at me, I want to start a riot. I HATE THAT.

2. When people talk about themselves too much. Have you ever been around someone who constantly talks about themselves? All their petty problems, none of which applicable to your own life? It’s irritating huh?

3. Arrogance. People who are all about talking themselves up. Wow, that’s annoying. Because honestly, when was the last time you just got home from a long day of school/work with a head ache, a stomache ache; and a pit in your stomache that leads to your strong desire to hear a long story about how your friend is a hard core superhero? :S

I don’t mean to be a downer, but people can be annoying. Right??!! So let me know what you think. Not only of my own petty peeves, but of your own. What little thing can ruin your day?? Lets hear it!

Ladies and Gentlemen, don’t hold your breath, but prom is coming up. It’s a pretty big deal.  So i need help with a very important project. Finding the perfect dress!!!

My goal is to have as many people as possible tell me all about the dress they got for last years prom, the dress they got/are getting for this year’s prom, OR their personal dream dress :P .

Go ahead and share! The most important part of prom is making sure you look good… And don’t show up with the same dress as someone else (right Amber?!), so posting can only help YOURSELF out! Because who knows, you may be getting the same dress as someone else in this very class. So check it out. Because seriously, if Ali and Alex showed up in the same thing, hair would fly right?? Haha, just kidding… But really. POST!

The Decision…

College. What a big word. A word everyone is so incredibally focused on! It attacks you in discussions with adults, in your every waking moment, and maybe even your nightmares. College is such a big step, and we have to have everything figured out about it within the next few weeks. NOT COOL! Truely upsetting really, that we have so little time to make a decision that is supposed to carry us through the next few years of our lives, and ultimately determine what we do for the rest of the years of our life!

A question may arise in your  mind right about now: Where is Jodi planning on spending her college years? The answer? Undecided.

SO HA!
